SEYSO

SEYSO is a Symphonic Orchestra for children/young adults which provides orchestral training for young musicians through a series of monthly workshops, three substantive annual courses and major public performances.

There is a large staff of specialist tutors and a team of experienced conductors. Members also benefit from the expertise of local, national and international guest directors, giving them access to an extensive range of musical genres featuring the great classics as well as modern and baroque works.

SEYSO collaborates with other youth and adult organisations, choral, dance and theatre groups, to provide a hugely broad range of musical genre and opportunities. We also work with local Cultural Development and Arts Councils to obtain discounts on other events not coordinated by ourselves.

As well as coaching in all aspects of orchestral musicianship, SEYSO offers advice on instrument care and maintenance, tuning and intonation, posture and deportment, practice techniques and careers in music.

There is a friendly and relaxed social atmosphere over a wide age range. (Over 18s can remain members as long as they are in further education.)

Our participants include an enormous age range of individuals in education from Primary to Higher Education. One of our unique attributes is the provision of orchestral training for students as young as 8 years, where the younger ones benefit from the participation of their older and more experienced role models. Across all ages, students acquire an understanding of the contribution of other individuals in the Organisation. We feel that this form of participation in a full symphony orchestra develops communication, presentation, teamwork and leadership skills, in a manner that few other groups can replicate.

Membership of SEYSO is open to orchestral instrumentalists from about grade 3.

SEYTO

For beginners up to about grade 3, an associated group SEYTO, meets at approximately the same times and usually on the same premises.

SEYTO shares the friendly and relaxed social atmosphere, offering beginners the opportunity to work and perform alongside SEYSO and make a natural progression up to it.

SOUTHEND THEATRES – BERNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SPECIAL OFFER!

SUNDAY 12 APRIL 2015

Southend Theatres are very excited to be able to offer an exclusive opportunity to our local music groups and musicians.

The Berne Symphony Orchestra is regarded by many as Switzerland’s finest orchestra and under their distinguished Music Director; their concert opens with Beethoven’s stirring Egmont Overture. This will be followed by Sibelius’ ethereal Violin Concerto played by one of our most exciting and highly-regarded young British musicians, Chloe Hanslip. The second half will feature Brahms’ sunniest and most serene symphony, his Symphony No. 2.

The Berne Symphony Orchestra is providing a 2 hour workshop before the concert and the opportunity to sit and have a cold buffet lunch in our beautiful Maritime room before the concert begins. The workshop will take you through the dramatic story of Beethoven’s Egmont overture, picking out the main characters and themes. We will then create our own overture inspired by similar ideas, working with Beethoven’s material as starting points: the call to battle, the pleading cries to stay, death, victory and more. If we have the right selection of instruments, we will also run through Beethoven’s original as well.

This will be an excellent opportunity to engage with this famous piece in an entirely new way, to appreciate Beethoven’s genius and to meet other musicians in a creative environment. It will also give an insight into the Bern Symphony Orchestra programme that same afternoon.

Participants will need to be at least grade 4 or above.

Workshop – 11.30am – 1.30pm
Lunch – 1.45pm – 230pm
Berne Symphony – 3pm

Workshop & Concert £10
Workshop, Lunch & Concert £15

If you would like to attend the workshop and concert, please let SEYSO know as soon as possible by email return or on 01702 207912.

A £1.50 per ticket booking fee normally applies, but if booked through SEYSO this fee will be waived.
