Youth Orchestra

SEYSO provides orchestral training for young musicians through a series of courses, workshop days and concerts featuring the great classics as well as modern and baroque pieces.

Our programme for 2011 included Sunday orchestral workshops, courses and formal concerts, exploring a variety of different styles under the direction of a team of experienced conductors and guided by specialist tutors.

Easter Saturday 23/4/2011 – 4.00pm afternoon performance
Southend High School for Boys, Prittlewell Chase, SS0 ORG

SEYSO and SEYTO began their afternoon Easter concert on an animal theme, performing a range of music from Carnival of the Animals (including the Swan, the Elephant and Fossils) to the film music from Jurassic Park. After the interval, they were joined by a chorus from local choirs in extracts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah, telling the Old Testament story of how Elijah defeats the Worshippers of Baal and calls upon God to bring an end to drought.

Music on Southend Pier

Sat 12/3/2011: SEYSO only, 12.30pm for 1pm
Southend Pier Entrance Walk-way

We were invited to play on the Pier from 1pm on Saturday 12th March, as part of a ‘Party on the Pier’ Visitor Information Centre event. The event launched British Tourism Week, in which over 30 piers across the country were taking part. Our music included some favourite marches and a corny seaside song called ‘Southend-on-Sea’, written for the Town in the 1950′s.
